Elizabeth was born in Cincinnati, Ohio which, for those who don’t know, is quite a food savvy city famous for Skyline Chili,
Graeter’s Ice Cream and, until recently La Maisonette, the longest running Mobil Five Star restaurant
in the country. Elizabeth grew up with a love of good food and an insatiable sweet tooth. Although she enjoyed cooking and baking,
she never considered that she could make a living
at it.
Instead she attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she received a BS in Economics. Upon graduation, she went to the
University of Texas in Austin for her Masters Degree in Business. She spent a couple of years in Washington, D.C. in the financial
consulting field before pulling up stakes and heading for Hollywood. She spent the next eight years in Los Angeles working on the
business side of the film industry. Feeling creatively unfulfilled, she decided to give up her Hollywood career and give cooking a
try. At age 30, she moved to Hyde Park, New York to attend the Culinary Institute of America where she graduated first in her class
in 1994.
Her professional cooking experience includes a stint at Campanile Restaurant and La Brea Bakery in Los Angeles
and a year as Pastry Chef at The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia. After meeting Shane, she decided to
leave the kitchen to get some restaurant management experience. As General Manager, she helped open two restaurants in the Triangle
before opening Four Square.
