Cuisine
Globally-influenced Contemporary American. The menu changes monthly and
incorporates the best of the region’s fresh produce, fish, game and
fowl from local farmers and purveyors. The restaurant is chef owned and
operated.
Venue
The restaurant is located in the
restored Victorian-era Bartlett Mangum House, which was built in 1908
and is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
(Please see the House History section of
this website for more information.) We have seven intimate dining
rooms, as well as a cozy six-stool bar. The house features original
leaded and stained glass windows, eight unique fireplaces with their
original wood, tiled and mirrored mantelpieces, a wraparound porch, the
original walnut staircase and heart pine floors, and a romantic second
floor balcony. The grounds feature a working kitchen vegetable and herb
garden and a beautiful perennial garden. (Please see the Photo Gallery section of this website
for interior and exterior photos.)

for reservations. We typically call to confirm all Friday,
Saturday and Holiday reservations. We require a credit card number to
hold all reservations for parties of eight or more. We also
take credit card numbers to hold reservations on most holidays.
Forms of Payment Accepted
We accept Amex, Visa, Mastercard and Diner’s Club. We do not accept
Discover or Personal Checks.
Private Dining
Due to our unique layout, we have several
options for private functions. Please refer to the Private Dining section of this website for more
information.
Dress Policy
We do not have a dress code. Most
patrons come dressed from business casual to coat & tie.
Smoking Policy
Four Square is completely
non-smoking. Smokers may head to the front porch where we have
rocking chairs, a
porch swing and ash cans.
Wine List and Corkage Policy
Four Square has an award winning wine list
which includes diverse offerings across a broad price
range. The wines we offer are chosen specifically to
harmonize with the food served here at Four Square. Above
all, we look for wines that represent an excellent quality and value,
which often sends us "off the beaten path". We love to talk
about wine with our guests, so please don't hesitate to ask for
assistance when you come in to dine. If you have a special
bottle at home that you'd like to bring in to the restaurant, our
corkage fee is $25. We ask that you limit the number of
bottles brought into the restaurant to one per table.
Outdoor Dining
We have a lovely screened-in porch for those
who like to dine al fresco. The tables on the porch
accomodate 2-4 guests only. The porch is equipped with
ceiling fans and offers guests a lovely view of our flower
garden. The chairs are comfortable, and the tables are set
with white linen just like the tables inside. We generally
do not take reservations for the tables on the porch too far in advance
due to the unpredictability of the weather in North Carolina!
Parking
We have ample parking on premises.
Handicap Access
Two handicap parking spaces and a ramp to our
side entrance are located to the right side of the house as you are
driving in. Our restaurant has two floors, and the second
floor is not handicap accessible. When making
reservations, please inform us if anyone in your party may have a
problem with stairs, and we will be certain to seat you on the first
floor of the restaurant.
